The DX-513 connects to the 713+ via a proprietary eSATA cable with specially designed locking devices, the ability to expand storage capacity to a maximum of 35TB is accomplished with very little time invested and configuration is a breeze.

You gotta love having options.

I know I do, and Synology has many options when using the 713+ with either the DX-513 or DX-213 expansion units.

What is unique about this arrangement is that it allows the user to expand in a manner that Macro and Micro Integrates all the parts as well as applications to function as one unit.

Dual USB 3.0 (rear) ports and one USB 2.0 (front) and an eSATA (rear) port allow for further expansion options. Thus, 35TB is possible.

The Bottom Line The Synology DS-713+ packs a lot of power in a small box with its dual-core Intel Atom 2.13GHz processor, and provides flexibility to businesses and home power users that do not need a lot of storage at first but may like to upgrade easily in the future.

On a personal note, not having tool-less trays was not an issue for me.
